Dreams Of A Repeat Come Up Just Short For Lexington Softball

Being the defending State Champion comes with a lot of pressure. Pressure that the Lexington Lady Tigers Softball Team faced head on all season long. But the dream of repeating as Class 3A Softball State Champions was ended by a very familiar foe on Friday. All season long Lexington and McNairy Central have gone back and forth on beating each other. McNairy beat Lexington for the District 11-3A Title, but Lexington took the Region 6-3A trophy. Then yet again, in the State Tournament, the two district-mates collided again with McNairy defeating the Lady Tigers and sending them to the losers bracket, before the teams met, yet again in the State Title game with Lexington forcing the winner-take-all final game. But this was McNairy’s year, as the Lady Bobcats won the decisive game 5-3. Despite the loss, Lexington will look back with pride on a run of 4 straight trips to Murfreesboro that included the title in 2022 after finishing as Runner-ups in back-to-back tournaments prior. Now the work begins on making another charge in 2024.
