NORMAN, Okla. – The Golf Coach Association of America (GCAA) released the 2023 Division II PING All-America Teams. Union University sophomore JJ Zimmer was named third team All-America. He is the first Bulldog golfer to be named All-America since Union returned to NCAA D2 play in 2012-13.
Zimmer, a 5-foot-11 sophomore from Jackson, Tennessee, finished his record setting season with a T15 finish in the NCAA D2 Super Region Championships in the first round of the NCAA D2 Golf National Championships. He was the first Union golfer to play in the NCAA D2 Nationals since Union’s return to NCAA play in 2012-13. Zimmer qualified as an individual last season but did not play due to an injury.
Zimmer is the No. 14-ranked individual among all golfers at the NCAA D2 level. He finished top-5 or better in eight of his nine events on the season. He posted two first-place finishes, including medalist honors at the Tunica Cup and the Hillcat Classic. He finished fourth at the Gulf South Conference Championships. Entering the nationals, Zimmer played in nine tournaments, 26 rounds, and posted a scoring average of 71.19. He helped Union to its highest NCAA National Ranking of No. 41.
Zimmer adds this All-America honor to a first team All-GSC and first team All-Region honors this season.
