LOUISVILLE, Ky.– Union University softball was recognized on a national level for their 3.289 team GPA with an Easton/National Fastpitch Coaches Association Academic Team Award. Addison Abell, Emily Claire Felder, Fallon Groves, and Grace White received All-America Scholar-Athlete honors from Easton/NFCA. To receive this award, a player must have a 3.5 GPA or higher.
In 2023, Union softball advanced to the GSC Tournament for the second straight season. They have made the tournament three times in the last five years.
Abell, a 5-foot-7 pitcher from Sparta, Tenn., made 17 appearances in the 2023 season, throwing 71.1 innings and recording four wins while striking out 32 batters.
Felder, a 5-foot-11 pitcher from Summit, Miss., had 20 appearances in 2023. She made eight starts and pitched four complete games, striking out 38 hitters in 67 innings.
Groves, a 5-foot-6 catcher from Ocean Springs, Miss., appeared in 47 games in the 2023 season. She had a .307 batting average with 24 RBIs and 42 hits, including two doubles and five home runs. Groves also received CSC Academic All-District.
White, a 5-foot-9 first baseman from New Johnsonville, Tenn., appeared in 39 games in 2023 and finished the season with a .302 batting average and .519 slugging percentage while hitting six doubles, four triples, and three homeruns. She was also named the 2023 GSC Champion Scholar-Athlete for softball and received CSC Academic All-District.
