Despite the weather, the University of Tennessee at Martin soccer team soared to a 2-1 win over Western Carolina.

For its first home win of the season, UT Martin (2-1) outshot Western Carolina (2-1-1) 14-13 and found goals in each half. The Skyhawks had an early corner kick and cashed in with Catey Hunt finding Izzy Patterson in the eighth minute to give UT Martin the early lead. The Skyhawk defense held the Catamounts scoreless in the first half courtesy of two saves from Poppy Bastock.

In the second half, Western Carolina got on the board from a Naya Marcil goal that was assisted on by Maggie Lloyd. Both teams were in a deadlock until Hunt threaded the needle on a corner kick to earn the game winning goal for UT Martin in the 85th minute.

The match was later put on hold due to severe weather in the area just three minutes later with 2:23 left to play in a game. After a 30-minute delay, the match was later called by officials, resulting in the 2-1 victory for the Skyhawks.

UT Martin newcomers Peyton Cook and Jenny Enriquez tallied shots on goal with Patterson leading the way for the Skyhawks with a team-high three shots.

UT Martin will hit the road to face SEC foe Kentucky on Thursday, Aug. 31 at 6:30 p.m. The game will be broadcasted on SEC Network+.
