JACKSON, Tenn.—On Sep. 15th, the Union University women’s soccer team won their first GSC regular season match of the 2023 season with a 2-0 victory over Christian Brothers University.

“We felt like it was a great team win today with how many players we had contribute,” said Union head coach Josh Alford. “CBU is a good team that always gives us trouble so any time we can win a conference game like that in the GSC, we will take it. We’re extremely happy to start off the season this way.”

Union’s first point came in the 17th minute of the game when Hannah Patterson kicked a goal, assisted by Ines Gama. In the 53rd minute, Gama scored a goal of her own. Freshman Rebekah Jackson got the assist.

Christian Brothers led in shots 13-8 and fouls 8-6. However, the Lady Bulldogs had more shots on goal with five compared to CBU’s three. Union also led in corner kicks 2-1. Each team had three saves.

Gama had the most shots of any Union player with three, including two on goal. Five other players had one shot each. The shots by Claire MaxonBethany Guinness, and Hannah Patterson were all on goal. Rylee Iorio played the entire game in goal with three saves.

The Lady Bulldogs’ next game is a home matchup with Georgia Gwinnett College on Sep. 18th at 3:00 p.m.
