TERRE HAUTE, Ind.- The University of Tennessee at Martin cross country team competed in their earliest meet of the season at the John McNichols XC Invitational with the men’s team finishing 11th and the women’s team placing 14th.
In the early morning 8k, the men started the day at 8 a.m. and were led by reigning Ohio Valley Conference Runner of the Week Luke Johnson for the second straight race. Johnson notched a time of 25:36.7 with Sam Shuman hitting a personal record in the 8k with a finishing time of 25:43.4. Hudson Hall (25:51.9), Ethan Knight (26:07.7) and freshman Angus Monro (26:16.5) wrapped up the race for the men’s team.
In their second 5k of the year, the women’s team was led by graduate Brooke Skoog who set a new PR of 18:50.2. Maggie Roy finished second for UT Martin with a PR of 18:55.9 while Rita Eimer (20:00.6) and Tori Holliday (20:14.7) finished strong. Freshman Violet Francisco set a new collegiate PR of 20:17.4 in her second race as a Skyhawk.
UT Martin will hit the course at the Live in Lou Cross Country Classic in Louisville, Ky. on Saturday, September 30th for their second to last regular season meet.
