
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The Union University women’s cross-country team posted a fourth-place finish at the Gulf South Conference Championships with a time of 1:35:13.70. The 5k event took place at John Hunt Park and featured 13 teams and 104 runners.
Head Coach Bailey Bell was very proud of the team’s effort and finish in the race.
“Our women’s team had their best race of the season when it mattered the most,” Bell said. “This group just ran the fourth fastest team time in program history. I am very proud of our girls. They laid it all out there going for it. Our top 3 finishers were freshman/sophomore runners. I am very excited for the future of this program as we continue to get stronger.”
The team time for Union’s women in the race was 1:35.13 which was the fourth best time in program history in a 5K meet.
Union was led by Victoria Markham, who placed 18th with a time of 18:30.30, and Ayla Young, who finished 19th with a time of 18:36. Both Markham and Young were named Second Team All-GSC because they placed in the top 20. There times also were the 18th and 19th best times in Union program history.
Addi Aguayo finished 27th (19:07), Mary Scott Tritt 31st (19:16.10), Sydnee Meadows 45th (19:44.30), Holly Blackwood 68th (21:01.40), Cami Haas 77th (21:33), and Lindsey Dismuke 78th (21:35.50).
Bell expressed gratitude for senior runners Meadows and Blackwood as their career at Union is coming to an end.
“I want to give my special thanks for Sydnee Meadows and Holly Blackwood who ran in their final GSC championship race,” Bell said. “They have played a major impact on this program. We are so grateful for them.”
Up next for the Lady Bulldogs is the NCAA D2 South Region Championships on Nov. 4th in Montevallo, Ala., at the UM Campus Cross Country Course.
