Union Men’s Soccer Falls to Shorter University

JACKSON, Tenn.—On Oct. 27, the Union University men’s soccer team lost to Shorter University 5-1. Union’s record drops to 3-9-2 overall (1-8-1 GSC) while Shorter improves to 2-13 overall (1-9 GSC).

The first goal of the game came in the 7th minute when Shorter’s Miguel Souza scored a goal. Souza won a penalty in the 9th minute and scored it for his second goal of the game. Shorter’s Charles Garcia scored in the 41st minute to make the score 3-0. He was assisted by Mattia Maiello. Souza scored his third goal of the game in the 55th minute, and Davide Maiello scored in the 57th minute for Shorter’s fifth goal of the game.

Ostian Bowen kept Union from being scoreless when he won a penalty in the 68th minute and scored it.
Shorter led in shots 23-17, saves 7-3, and fouls 16-12. Union led in corner kicks 5-3, and each team had eight shots on goal.

Sam Newman led Union in shots with four, two on goal. Stan De Vries and Bowen each had three shots with one goal. Tommy Scahill played all 90 minutes in goal with three saves.

On Oct. 29 at 2:30 p.m., the Bulldogs play their season finale on the road against Lee University.
