
MOREHEAD, Ky.- The University of Tennessee at Martin Cross Country team ran strong at the Ohio Valley Conference Championship with a fifth-place finish for the men and a seventh-place finish for the women.
UT Marin earned three total All-OVC awards with Sam Shuman placing on the first team for his first career All-OVC accolade. Sophomore Luke Johnson brought home an All-OVC second team medallion, while Brooke Skoog secured a spot on the All-OVC team to become the first Skyhawk woman in four years to earn the recognition.
The day started with the men’s race as every member in the scoring five crossed the line with a new personal record. Shuman (23:54.77) led the way with a fifth-place finish followed by Johnson (24:17.31) who placed 11th.
Ethan Knight finished the 8K in 24:58.8 which was good enough for a spot in 30th on the leaderboard while freshman Angus Monro rose to the occasion in his first OVC Championship with a time of 25:03.45 which placed him in 35th. Senior Colten Glosser wrapped up the scoring five for UT Martin in 37th, finishing the race at 25:08.11.
The women’s 6K was up next with Brooke Skoog leading the Skyhawks, landing in 12th with a time of 22:12.25. Sophomore Maggie Roy narrowly missed out on the All-OVC team with a time of 22:25.26 which was good enough for a PR and 16th. Gabby Brown (23:24.38) nailed a PR and finished 41st, while Rita Eimer (44th, 23:30.89) and Tori Holiday (53rd, 23:56.88) concluded the scoring five for UT Martin.
The Skyhawks will now shift their focus to the NCAA South Regional Championship in Gainesville, Fla. on Nov. 10th.
