Union Women’s Soccer Ends Season With 1-0 Loss to Montavello In GSC Tournament

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – On Nov. 4, the Union University women’s soccer team lost 1-0 to the University of Montevallo in the first round of the GSC Women’s Soccer Championships. The loss ended the Lady Bulldogs’ season, and with the win, Montevallo moves on to the quarterfinals of the championships.

The first and only goal of the game was scored by Montevallo’s Isabel Dillehay in the 39th minute. She was assisted by Lainey Farabaugh and Miranda Fragoso.

Montevallo led in shots 19-9, shots on goal 9-2, and corner kicks 7-1. Union had more saves and fouls with 8 and 11, respectively.

Union’s two shots on goal came from Rebekah Jackson and Bethany GuinnessRylee Iorio played all 90 minutes in goal with eight saves.

In her fifth and final year with Union, Iorio was named GSC Defender of the Week and Second Team All-GSC. She also broke the record for most saves in Union women’s soccer history, finishing her career with 307.

The Lady Bulldogs ended with an overall record of 8-9-1 (7-6 GSC) and returned to the GSC Championships for the first time since 2016 through the talent of both veterans and freshmen as well as the leadership of second-year head coach Josh Alford and first-year assistant coach Mercedes Padilla.
