
MAGNOLIA, Ark. – The University of Tennessee at Martin rodeo squads traveled to Southern Arkansas over the weekend as the women’s team placed seventh with 15 points and the men’s squad finished ninth with 120 points.
Clint Southworth accounted for all points on the Skyhawk men’s side, excelling in the calf roping event. The senior from Bagdad, Ky. placed second with a time of 10.0 seconds flat in the opening round before placing fourth in the short go (11.5) and third in average (21.5).
UT Martin landed a pair of participants in the breakaway roping finals. Leah Pitts finished second in the short round (2.4) and third in average (5.3) while Brianna Pugh’s 2.6 seconds was the second-best time in the opening go.
In goat tying, Anna Wilder came away with points in the first round as her 8.1 seconds split fifth.
Walter Smithson (saddle bronc riding), Pugh (goat tying) and Madde Shelton (barrel racing) additionally made the finals in their respective events but each faced some tough luck with no points.
The Skyhawks conclude the fall season on Nov. 16-18 when they make the short drive to Murray State.
