BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – University of Tennessee at Martin graduate quarterback Kinkead Dent was rewarded for his strong performance on the road at Tennessee Tech last weekend by being named Big South-OVC Football Association Offensive Player of the Week.
Dent, a 6-4 quarterback from Yazoo City, Miss., helped the No. 18 Skyhawks rally from a 14-point fourth-quarter deficit at Tennessee Tech, throwing three of his five touchdown passes in the final 8:16 of regulation and overtime – including the go-ahead, game-winning nine-yard strike in overtime. His final stat line saw the gunslinger complete 24-of-40 pass attempts for 318 yards. The game marked the eighth time in program history that a Skyhawk quarterback has throw for five or more touchdowns in a contest – joining former quarterbacks Derek Carr and Jarod Neal as the lone players to accomplish the feat multiple times in a single season.
After tossing a pair of touchdowns in the first half, Dent erased a 38-24 UT Martin deficit with 10 minutes remaining in regulation with a 21-yard scoring strike to Sam Franklin. He then found DJ Nelson with 1:57 to go in the fourth quarter to send the game into overtime. After the Skyhawks held the Golden Eagles to a field goal to open overtime, Dent hit Zoe Roberts on 3rd-and-7 for the game-winning score for the team’s second overtime victory of the season.
Dent currently ranks eighth nationally in first in the Big South-OVC Football Association with 21 passing touchdowns on the season while sitting 11th in FCS with 138 points responsible for.
