Union Volleyball Falls To Auburn University Montgomery On Senior Night

JACKSON, Tenn. – On Nov. 10, the Union University volleyball team recognized seniors Lauren Burrell and Hannah Hampel for their hard work and dedication prior to their match versus Auburn University Montgomery. Following Hampel’s beautiful rendition of the National Anthem, the match began with the Lady Bulldogs losing 3-1 (18-25, 25-18, 24-26, 16-25). Union’s record fell to 6-24 overall (5-10 GSC), while AUM’s record improved to 22-8 overall (11-4 GSC).

Burrell, a senior from Huntsville, Ala., played four seasons as a Lady Bulldog. She competed in 40 matches throughout her career, compiling 144 total sets played, 223 digs, 18 assists, and 1.55 digs per set. Burrell is graduating from Union with a degree in accounting.

Hampel, a senior also from Hunstville, Ala., played four years at Union. Hampel competed in 40 matches during her long tenure as a Lady Bulldog. She recorded 91 total sets played, 115 kills, 64 digs, 15 blocks, and 9 assists. Hampel is graduating from Union with a degree in English.

Jordan Moore led Union in the match with 13 kills and eight blocks. Setters Gracie Tacker and Ashley Pruitt contributed the most assists with 21 and 15, respectively. Pruitt also had four aces. Burrell made her mark on her senior night with 10 digs, tying Reese Owens for the most by a Lady Bulldog in the contest. Owens added nine kills and three blocks of her own.

Up next for Union is their final game of the season, a home match with the University of West Florida on Nov. 11 at 2:00 p.m.
