
JACKSON, Tenn – Union’s men’s basketball team drops their first conference game of the season to the Mississippi College Choctaws by a score of 78-71.
Union’s record falls to an even 2-2 overall (0-1 GSC) following yesterday’s loss. Mississippi College’s record improves to 2-2 overall (1-0 GSC).
First Half: Union 32, Mississippi College 30
In the first half Union shot at a 55% (11-20) clip from the floor and an impressive 44.44% (4-9) from beyond the arc. Union also was 7-8 from the charity strike as a team in the first half of action. Ahmad Johnson scored the first 9 points for the Bulldog’s in a first half that seen four lead changes. Johnson led the Bulldogs in scoring in the first half with 15 points. Devaki Garr was able to knock down two three-pointers in the game versus the Choctaws. Others that put points on the board include Jordan Pyke (5), Dusan Djordjevic (2), Parker Applegate (2), and Justin Debuck (2).
Second Half: Mississippi College 78, Union 71 (FINAL)
The Choctaw’s Cam Brown set the tone for the second half by knocking down 2 three-pointers in the first four minutes of action in the second half. Jeremiah Littlepage put the first points on the board with a layup to score his first two points of the game. Ahmad Johnson continued to shoot it well for the Bulldog’s, contributing a 15 more points to their second half effort. Littlepage finished the game with 13 points (all coming in the second half). The second half consisted of 3 lead changes between the conference foes. Union shot 51.72% (15-29) from the floor and cooled off from the three-point line, shooting just 33.33% (4-12). The Bulldogs struggled to convert on free throw opportunities in the second half, only converting 5 of 11(45.45%) opportunities. The Choctaws went on a 12-0 run with 13 minutes left in the second half to fend off the Union offense.

Next for the Bulldog’s will be a road conference game versus the Delta State Statesman on November 26th. The Bulldogs play at home again on November 30th in a non-conference game with Lindsey Wilson College.
