MARTIN, Tenn.  – University of Tennessee at Martin student-athletes will play the role of “Skyhawk Santas” this December.

The UT Martin Student-Athlete Advisory Committee has launched its annual “Hawks for the Holidays” initiative, which will assist needy families over the holiday season.

SAAC’s primary effort centers around the “Weakley Wishes” program, used to purchase Christmas gifts for foster children. The program is run by the Northwest Division of Family Services.

Student-Athletes have donated nearly $1,000 of their own money and will take their efforts into the Martin community during the first-ever “Hawks for the Holidays” weekend on Dec. 1-2.  On Friday, Dec. 1, Martin Energy and Nutrition will donate 10 percent of all sales for the day to the fundraising effort. On Saturday, Dec. 2, student-athletes will serve as guest baristas at the Higher Ground Coffee Company and Vantage Coffee Roasters Martin locations, with both shops donating a portion of their tips to the cause.

On Wednesday, Dec. 6, UT Martin student-athletes will play the role of Santa, gathering together to shop, wrap and deliver presents all in one night.

We encourage you to fill up your cups on Dec. 1 and Dec. 2 to support “Hawks for the Holidays”!
