
MURRAY, Ky. – The University of Tennessee at Martin women’s basketball team hung tough with the nation’s third-ranked scoring offense but ultimately came up short against former Ohio Valley Conference rival Murray State by a final margin of 88-75.
The Skyhawks (0-6) posted their best offensive performance of the season by shooting 52.7 percent (29-of-55) from the field while scoring a season-best 75 points. The squad also scored 28 points in the fourth quarter – posting their best scoring period of the season – while placing three players in double figures.
Kenley McCarn paced the Skyhawks with 19 points on 7-of-14 shooting while knocking down a trio of three-pointers. Sophomore forward Lexi Rubel posted a new career-high with 17 points while adding five rebounds. Fellow sophomore Anaya Brown just missed out on her second double-double in as many games after tallying 13 points and nine rebounds.
Murray State (3-2) maintained its high-scoring pace by reaching 88 points while shooting 46.2 percent from the field and knocking down 11 three-pointers. The Racers placed six players in double figures, led by 15 points and 11 rebounds by Katelyn Young while Zoe Stewart tossed in 14 points off the bench. Cayson Conner (11 points), Jenna Walker (11 points), Hannah McKay (10 points) and Ava Learn (10 points) also reached double-digits.
UT Martin returns to action in the Kathleen and Tom Elam Center when playing host to Evansville on Saturday, Dec. 2. Tipoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
