Union Softball Announces 2024 Signing Class

JACKSON, Tenn. – The Union University softball team announced its signing class for the 2024 season. Sarah Kate Thompson (Myrtle, Miss.), Camryn Langley (Lebanon, Tenn.), Sophie Mislevy (Gulf Breeze, Fla.), Alyssa Harville (Olive Branch, Miss.), and Lainey Baker (Cartersville, Ga.) are Union’s newcomers.
“We are really excited about this year’s incoming class,” said head coach Sydney Sturner. “To see the growth and impact each one of them have had this fall, will be exciting to continue to watch that unfold this spring. Alyssa, Camryn, Lainey, Sophie, and Sarah Kate all bring individual strengths to the team and will have important roles as we step into the 2024 season.”
Thompson, a 5-foot-3 junior infielder, played two years of softball at Itawamba Community College before transferring to Union. She was a captain in 2022, which was her freshman season. The team was also ranked #1 in the nation in 2022. During her sophomore season, she was the starting second baseman, playing in 44 games and accumulating a .348 batting avg, .464 slugging percentage, 48 hits, 1 homerun, 20 RBIs, 36 runs scored, and 21 stolen bases. Before college, Thompson prepped at Myrtle High School where she played six years of softball, two years of volleyball, and two years of basketball.
Langley, a 5-foot-4 freshman utility player, prepped at Wilson Central High School where she played four years of softball. Her team was District Runner Up, Regional Champions, and Sectional Champions and placed fourth in State. She was a four-year starter with a .366 career batting average, .429 career on-base percentage, and .459 career slugging percentage. She was named All-District twice and also earned All-Tournament, Offensive Player, and Defensive Player honors. She also played 10 years of travel softball.
Mislevy, a 5-foot-7 freshman catcher and third baseman, prepped at Gulf Breeze High School in Gulf Breeze, Fla., where she played four years of softball and two years of basketball. She was part of three district championships,and her team was undefeated during the regular season of her senior year. She was named Pensacola Senior Scholar Athlete, earned the team leadership and defensive award, and had a 0.99 fielding percentage during her senior year. She also played 10 years of travel softball.
Harville, a 5-foot-4 freshman outfielder, played 13 years of softball and 5 years of volleyball.
Baker, a 5-foot-9 sophomore pitcher, played softball at Samford University for her freshman year. Prior to Samford, she played four years of varsity softball at Woodland High School.
The Lady Bulldogs will begin their season on Feb. 2, 2024, at the Mardi Gras Invitational in Youngsville, La., against Harding University.
