BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – For the fifth time in her career, University of Tennessee at Martin women’s basketball guard Kenley McCarn has been named Ohio Valley Conference Freshman of the Week for her performances on the road against Tennessee State and Tennessee Tech last weekend.
McCarn – a 5-11 guard – put on a show in her first taste of OVC action, scoring 20 points or more in both road wins this past weekend. She averaged 21.0 points while adding 6.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 1.5 steals per game. From the field she knocked down eight three-pointers from beyond the arc and converted on all 10 of her free throw opportunities.
The Melbourne, Ark. native kicked off OVC play with a game-high 22 points while adding six rebounds, three assists and two steals in 40 minutes of action against Tennessee State on Thursday night. Then less than 48 hours later, she helped her team complete the weekend sweep with 20 points, seven rebounds, five assists and a steal to knock off Tennessee Tech on its home floor.
For her career, the redshirt-freshman has compiled two OVC Player of the Week honors and five OVC Freshman of the Week selections.
McCarn and the Skyhawks return home to the Elam Center to host OVC rival Eastern Illinois on Thursday, Jan. 4. Tipoff is slated for 5 p.m.
