Union Women’s Basketball Cruises Past West Alabama

JACKSON, Tenn. – The No. 6/18 Union University Lady Bulldogs extend their winning streak to four games following their win over the University of West Alabama. The Lady Bulldog’s record improves to 14-1 overall (8-1 GSC) while West Alabama’s record falls to 3-10 overall (2-7 GSC).

The Lady Bulldogs started the game on a 9-0 run courtesy of baskets from Macey LeeShanique Lucas, and Jazalyn Anousinh. West Alabama was able to get to the free throw line early and often, five of their first nine points at the line. Union’s leading scorer on the year, Macey Lee, led the Lady Bulldogs in scoring through the first ten minutes with seven points.

The Lady Bulldogs, leading by as many as 15 points in the first period, ended the period with an 11-point lead (24-13).

The second period for Union opened with a 17-5 run, lasting over half of the second period of action. The Lady Bulldogs out-scored West Alabama 24-14 in the second period, extending the Bulldog lead to 24 points. Mark Campbell‘s squad shot 68.8% from the floor, and 44.4% from three-point range. Union was able to force 14 turnovers in the first half, allowing the Lady Bulldogs to score 26 points off of turnovers.

Macey Lee led all scorers at intermission with 11 points. Shanique Lucas scored 10 points in the first half and led Union in steals with two. Emma Kallas and Olivia Lee scored eight and seven points respectively. Leah Cauble led Union in rebounds with three. Jazalyn Anousinh had a team-high of three assists.

The Lady Bulldogs continue to assert their dominance over the Tigers, out-scoring West Alabama 28-16. Macey Lee pushed her game-leading point total to 18. Three Lady Bulldogs entered into double-digit scoring going into the final ten minutes of play.

Union finished the game with four players in double-digit scoring (Macey LeeShanique LucasEmma KallasOlivia Lee). Macey Lee led all players with 18 points, shooting 8-9 from the floor and a perfect 2-2 from beyond the arc. Shanique Lucas and Jazalyn Anousinh shared the team lead in assists with three. Keisharna Lucas led the Lady Bulldogs in rebounds with five. Union shot 59.1% from the floor for the game and 36% from three-point range. The Lady Bulldogs out-rebounded the Tigers 29-24 and collected nine more assists (14-5).
