
MURRAY, Ky. – The first of three spring matches for the University of Tennessee at Martin rifle team took place today as the Skyhawks took on Georgia Southern in a neutral-site competition.
UT Martin came away with 4,617 aggregate points, posting a score of 2,332 in air rifle to go along with 2,285 smallbore points. The No. 6 ranked Eagles amassed a combined score of 4,738 points (2,389 in air rifle and 2,349 in smallbore).
Junior Alayna Walther continued her impressive 2023-24 campaign today, topping the Skyhawks in aggregate scoring (1,170) for the sixth time in seven opportunities. The Avella, Pa. native accomplished that feat behind team-high tallies in both air rifle (592, only one point from her career-high) and smallbore (578).
Making up UT Martin’s air rifle team score behind Walther was Joey Kovach (career-best 586 points), Nick Fares (577), Aubrey Summers (577) and Jeffrey Bourassa (566). Jesse Chamberlain also earned 566 points while shooting as an individual.
In smallbore, Fares’ 575 points only trailed Walther in the Skyhawk lineup – which also included Kovach (569), Chamberlain (563, one point shy of his career-high) and Bourassa (559). Summers additionally competed in the event individually, compiling a career-best score of 574.
Following Walther in UT Martin aggregate scoring was Kovach (1,155), Fares (1,152), Summers (1,151), Chamberlain (1,129) and Bourassa (1,125).
The Skyhawks conclude the 2023-24 regular season at home next weekend, hosting UAB on Saturday, Jan. 20 and Memphis on Sunday, Jan. 21. Both matches are set to begin at 9 a.m.
