
JACKSON, Tenn. – The Bulldogs fall to Mississippi College by a score of 75-53. Union is now 10-7 (7-6 GSC) while Mississippi College improved to 8-8 (7-5 GSC). Union extends their recent tear through the GSC to four straight conference wins.
Before tonight’s game, Union sat in fifth in the GSC standings with a 7-5 conference record. The Choctaws of Mississippi College came into the game tied for seventh place with a 6-5 conference record.
David Niven‘s squad played without Ahmad Johnson and Jordan Pyke due to injury in Saturday evening’s game.
In the first half of the game, there were two lead changes. The Bulldogs led by as many as 16 points before giving up a 26-6 run, granting the Choctaws a 34-30 lead. Mississippi College shot 38.9% from the field compared to Union’s 32%. Mississippi College’s TJ Wallace led all scorers with eight points at the half.
Union’s Devaki Garr scored six points in the first half of action thanks to two three-pointers. Two Bulldogs tallied five rebounds in the first half (Jeremiah Littlepage, Parker Applegate). Littlepage also tallied three blocks in the first 20 minutes of play.
The Choctaws continued their impressive scoring run with a 10-2 run to begin the second half. Rashad Bolden caught fire for Mississippi College, scoring 10 points in the first seven minutes of the second half. Down 17 with 12 minutes remaining, Parker Applegate was able to strike back with four points to keep the Bulldogs hanging around.
The Choctaws’ hot streak was too much for the Bulldogs to overcome. In the second half, Mississippi College shot 46.3% from the floor compared to Union’s 34%. Union committed 13 turnovers which led to the Choctaws scoring 18 points off turnovers. Mississippi College also out-rebounded Union 43-30. Rashad Bolden led all scorers with 27 points, 21 coming in the second half.
Union was led by Parker Applegate who tallied a double-double. Applegate scored 13 points and brought in 12 rebounds on the evening for Union.
