
MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin picked up a big win in its first home match of the season today, outscoring the UAB Blazers by a 4,629-4,581 margin at Skyhawk Rifle Range.
UT Martin piled up 2,330 points in air rifle and 2,299 points in smallbore today, edging out UAB (2,315 air rifle, 2,266 smallbore) for its fourth win in the last five tries over the Blazers.
The Skyhawk air rifle lineup consisted of Alayna Walther (587), Nick Fares (586), Joey Kovach (581), Aubrey Summers (576) and Jeffrey Bourassa (563). Walther paced the squad in air rifle for the seventh consecutive match.
In smallbore, Walther posted 585 points to lead the way while Kovach (577), Fares (575), Jesse Chamberlain (562) and Bourassa (551) followed. Like air rifle, Walther guided UT Martin in smallbore scoring for the seventh match in a row, coming away one point shy of her career-high tally.
Walther’s 1,172 aggregate points were a team-high today and was followed by Fares (1,161), Kovach (1,158), Summers (1,138 – including 562 smallbore points while shooting as an individual), Chamberlain (1,128 – including an air rifle score of 566 as an individual) and Bourassa (1,114).
The Skyhawks wrap up the regular season next Sunday, Jan. 28 when they host in-state rival Memphis. The match is set to begin at 9 a.m.
