LEXINGTON, Tenn. — One day following the announcement of his departure from the Lexington football program, Bryant Hollingsworth spoke with Alex Northcut of the Sports 731 Network Friday morning regarding his new position with Henderson County Schools.
Hollingsworth has been named the new District Athletic Director for the county and will begin his responsibilities Monday. The career change shocked many sports enthusiasts around West Tennessee, however, this was a decision that had been on Hollingsworth’s mind for quite some time.
“I always knew that eventually I wanted to go in a direction of possibly being an athletic director at some level,” said Hollingsworth. “It was an opportunity that I couldn’t really pass up. Through a long thought process, talking to my wife, and looking at everything, I thought this may be the best time for me to jump at the opportunity and take that shot.”
Hollingsworth spent a total of 21 years with Lexington football, surpassing 100 career wins during his time as head coach. His years with the Tigers created lasting memories, but now the veteran coach is looking forward to serving the local community in a different way.
“I’m definitely going to miss being around the staff every day and being with the guys every day. The excitement of a Friday night when those lights come on and watching the guys have success, you know it’s going to be missed,” said Hollingsworth. “The way I look at it though, I’ll now have an opportunity in this role to possibly be of help to more than Lexington High School. It will give me an opportunity to help more and to be of service to more people.”
Henderson County athletics and Lexington High School now turn their attention to finding Hollingsworth’s replacement as head football coach. Members of the athletic board will begin forming a plan next week, with the goal to find a new coach sooner rather than later.
“We want to get the process going and get it rolling, and the expectation is to get it rolling within a week or so,” said Hollingsworth.
