Union Softball Splits Final Day Of Columbus State Classic

JACKSON, Tenn. – On Feb. 10, the Union University softball team went 1-1 in the second and final day of the Columbus State Classic in Columbus, Ga. The Lady Bulldogs are now 5-3 overall.

In game one, Union faced Tuskegee University, running away with the game 7-0. Courtney Marler led in RBIs with two and also had a 2-3 game at the plate. Macey Neal and Zoey Neal had multi-hit games as well, going 2-4 and 3-4 respectively. Freshmen Camryn Langley and Sophie Mislevy burned up the basepaths with two stolen bases each.

Emily Claire Felder got the start for the Lady Bulldogs and pitched a complete game shutout for her second win of the season. She struck out eight batters while only allowing three hits.

In game two, Union fell to Georgia College 4-0. The Lady Bulldogs had only two hits in the game with one a piece coming from Sarah Kate Thompson and Langley.

Lainey Baker started for the Lady Bulldogs and threw 3.2 innings before giving way to Addison Abell who pitched 2.1 scoreless innings in relief. Baker got the loss in the game as she was responsible for Georgia College’s four runs. She is now 2-2 on the season.

Overall, Union finished 3-1 in the Columbus State Classic. Next up, the team will return home for their first GSC series of the season in which they will face the University of West Alabama. Game one will be on Feb. 17 at 1:00 p.m.
