JACKSON, Tenn. – Courtney Marler and the Lady Bulldogs walk off No. 13 West Alabama in 2-1 final.
Coach Sturner’s squad picks up their second top-25 win of the season with the win over the Tiger. Lainey Baker led Union in the circle, striking out 15 West Alabama batters while only allowing three hits and a run. Baker’s 15-strikeout performance lands her in a tie for third all-time for strikeouts in a single game at Union.
Macey Neal broke through for the Union offense, homering over the center field fence to tie the game 1-1 in the sixth inning. In the seventh inning, Union’s Sarah Kate Thompson singled into left field to bring home the, would-be, game-winning run that was thrown out in a bang-bang play at the dish. Lainey Baker held the line for the Lady Bulldogs in the top of the eighth, striking out her 15th batter of the game.
Morgan Jennings led off the bottom of the eighth with a single up the middle and was brought home a batter later with a perfectly executed bunt by Courtney Marler to walk off the Tigers of West Alabama. Macey Neal, Morgan Jennings, Sarah Kate Thompson, and Courtney Marler all picked up two hits for the Lady Bulldogs. Courtney Marler and Mackenzie David both doubled in the victory.
The Lady Bulldogs will play a double-header tomorrow versus No. 13 West Alabama to complete the three-game series. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. General admission is free courtesy of FirstBank.
