Union Baseball Wins Rubber Match With West Alabama

JACKSON, Tenn. – The Union University Bulldogs took game three of the weekend series versus the University of Alabama by a score of 6-1. Union’s record improves to 6-5 overall (2-1 GSC) while West Alabama’s record falls to 6-5 overall (1-2 GSC).

The last time Union opened Gulf South Conference series play with a win was in 2021 when Union swept the University of Alabama in Huntsville on the road in Huntsville.

Noah Toney returned to form in the rubber match with the Tigers of West Alabama, pitching 4.2 innings of shutout baseball while striking out four Tigers. Lane EvansEthan Orwig, and Jamal Allen all combined for 4.1 innings of one-run baseball, slamming the door on the Tiger’s offense. Union’s defense played error-free behind the stingy Union pitching staff.

Union out-hit West Alabama 12-7, allowing them to put six runs on the Tiger pitching staff.

Mitch SiskAlec Hardy, and Dyllon Barrett all had multi-hit games. Eight out of nine Union starters recorded a hit in the series finale. The top five hitters in Union’s lineup combined for eight hits, five runs, and six runs batted in. Sisk, Hardy, and Smith all collected extra-base hits in Union’s strong offensive showing.

The Bulldogs will play a midweek game versus Lane at Fesmire Field on Tuesday, Feb. 20 before opening up their next GSC series with Delta State University. Game one of the DSU series is set for Friday, Feb. 20 at 6:00 p.m. General Admission for all home games is free courtesy of FirstBank.
