JACKSON, Tenn. – Union University’s Lainey Baker has been named the Gulf South Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week for the week ending Feb. 18. This is Baker’s first award this year.
Baker, a 5-foot-9 sophomore from Cartersville, Ga., is in her first season at Union after transferring from Samford University. On Feb. 17, she pitched an 8-inning complete game against No. 13 University of West Alabama in which Union ultimately won 2-1. Baker’s performance was a gem as she struck out 15 Tigers while allowing only one run on three hits.
Up next, Baker and the Lady Bulldogs will face Miles College in a midweek doubleheader at Fesmire Field on Feb. 21. Game one is scheduled to start at 2:00 p.m. General admission for all home games is free courtesy of FirstBank.
