
NDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – University of Tennessee at Martin junior Jacob Crews was highlighted as one of five Oscar Robertson Trophy National Players of the Week in NCAA Division I men’s basketball, the U.S. Basketball Writers Association announced this afternoon.
Since the 2009-10 season, the Oscar Robertson Trophy has been affiliated with a National Player of the Week program. Each Tuesday during the regular season, designated USBWA board members select five players from the 32 NCAA Division I conference players of the week to be recognized. This week’s selections were chosen from a list of the conferences that named a Player of the Week on Monday.
Crews was joined by Southeastern Louisiana’s Nick Caldwell (22.5 points, 10.0 rebounds per game), Pitt’s Blake Hinson (34.0 points per contest, 14 three-pointers made), San Diego State’s Jaedon Ledee (25.0 points per outing, 70.8 percent shooting) and Middle Tennessee’s Jestin Porter (33.5 points per game, 70.7 percent shooting from three-point range) on this week’s prestigious list.
A 6-8, 210-pound guard/forward, Crews pumped in 30.5 points per game on 50 percent (18-of-36) shooting – including a 47.6 percent effort (10-for-21) from three-point land. He also canned 15 of his 17 free throw attempts (88.2 percent) while hauling in 7.0 rebounds per outing in a pair of home victories over Southern Indiana and Morehead State.
The Hilliard, Fla. native posted 32 points – 28 in the second half alone – with a career-best six trifectas on Thursday against Southern Indiana. Crews followed that with 29 points on Saturday against OVC leader Morehead State, helping the Skyhawks to their seventh win in the last eight tries.
