Union Women’s Basketball Smashes UAH On The Road

JACKSON, Tenn. – On Feb. 22, the No. 6/14 Union University women’s basketball team went on the road and defeated the University of Alabama in Huntsville 92-68. With their win, Union has clinched at least a 2-seed in the Gulf South Conference Tournament. The Lady Bulldogs are now 25-2 overall (19-2 GSC), while the Chargers are 8-16 overall (7-14 GSC).

Emma Kallas led Union with 17 points, tying her season high. At the end of the first quarter, the Lady Bulldogs were ahead 17-15 and outscored the Chargers 33-17 in the second to go into halftime with a 50-32 lead. Union scored 18 points in the third quarter and 24 points in the fourth to beat UAH by 24.

Besides Kallas, four other Lady Bulldogs had double-digit points, including Brooke Hampel with 13, Shanique Lucas with 12, and Macey Lee and Courtney Zensen with 10 a piece. Hampel also had the most rebounds with seven, and Jazalyn Anousinh led in assists with seven.

Union shot 47.4 percent (37-78) from the field, 27.3 percent (9-33) from three-point range, and 81.8 percent (9-11) from the free throw line.

Bellah Machen led UAH with 16 points. The Chargers shot 51 percent (26-51) from the field, 36.8 percent (7-19) from three-point range, and 64.3 percent (9-14) from the free throw line.

Up next, the Lady Bulldogs continue their road trip, facing the University of West Alabama on Feb. 24 at 2:00 p.m.
