
JACKSON, Tenn. – The Union University Bulldogs drop both games of the Saturday double header with Delta State University by scores of 10-9 and 8-1. The Bulldogs fall to a record of 7-8 overall (2-4 GSC) while the Statesmen improves to 9-5 overall (3-0 GSC).
In the first game of the evening double header, Union held a 6-1 lead going into the top half of the fifth innings. Delta State then scored nine unanswered runs, giving the Statesmen a 10-4 lead heading into the ninth inning frame. The Bulldogs scored three in the bottom of the ninth, yet the late surge was not enough for Union to overcome the Statesmen lead.
Eli Snelson started the first game for the Bulldogs on the hill, tossing five innings, allowing three earned runs on six hits. Snelson struck out six Statesmen batters. Jake Jewell took the loss for the Bulldogs, moving his record to 0-1.
Seven Bulldog hitters recorded a hit in the first game. Carson Chavies, Mitch Sisk, Alec Hardy, Grant Ross, Jake Keyl, Elijah Ramsey, and Dyllon Barrett all recorded a hit in the game. Ross’ lone hit on the game was a moon-shot of a homer in the fourth inning, his first of the season.
Game two of the evening (three of the series) was all Statesmen at Fesmire Field. Union only scored a run on five hits and an error. Walks killed the Bulldog’s pitching staff, walking eight Statesmen batters in the game. Union gave up eight runs on five hits and no errors.
Offensively for the Bulldogs, Grant Ross and Blake Barrett both had a multi-hit game, both recording two hits. Union scored one run on five hits and an error.
