
NEW ORLEANS, La. – The University of Tennessee at Martin golf team saved its best round of the Gulf Coast Collegiate for last today, ranking amongst the tournament leaders in team scoring to conclude their second tournament of the spring.
Four of the five members of the Skyhawk lineup posted their best score of the event today, leading to a 303 (+15) – the fifth-best Round 3 tally in the entire tournament. Overall, UT Martin placed ninth with a score of 927 (+63) on the challenging English Turn Golf and Country Club course.
Jacob Uehlein produced the 17th top-20 finish of his storied collegiate career today, dropping in three birdies while shooting a final-round 81 to end his tournament at 228 (+12). The graduate from Tullahoma, Tenn. ranked second in the event in par-4 scoring (4.17, +5) and fifth in the tournament in birdies (11) while posting a team-best 4.83 (-2) par-5 scoring average.
The Skyhawk scoring lineup was led today by Ethan Ray, who managed three birdies and 11 pars on the way to a 73. Jonathan Xoinis had all three of his birdies on the front-nine en route to a 76 while Dax Isbell (three birdies), Grant Phillips (two birdies) and Luke Caldwell (one birdie) each shot a 77.
Playing as an individual, Jackson Twerdahl also came away with his best score of the tournament as the redshirt junior carded a 77 with two birdies.
Overall, Phillips finished 28th in the field of 92 with a score of 231. Ray led the squad in par-3 scoring (3.25, +3) before ending with a 232, which was the same tally registered by Isbell. Caldwell (238) tallied a team-best 30 pars while Xoinis (239) paced UT Martin in par-3 scoring (3.25, +3) alongside Ray.
Twerdahl tied Caldwell for the team lead with 30 pars in the 54-hole event, finishing with a score of 240.
The Skyhawks are back in action next week when it travels to St. Simons Island, Ga. for the People’s Golf Championship hosted by Western Carolina. The tournament will take place at Sea Palms Golf Club over the course of three days (Thursday, March 7 through Saturday, March 9).
