
MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin STUNT team picked up a victory to start its two-day home tournament today, defeating Southern Arkansas before falling to Kentucky at Skyhawk Fieldhouse.
UT Martin earned a 14-0 triumph over Southern Arkansas this morning, riding an early lead to the victory. The Skyhawks led 4-0 after the partner stunts first quarter and extended that advantage out to 7-0 at halftime thanks to three more points in the pyramids and tosses second quarter. UT Martin received one point during the third quarter (jumps and tumbling) before capping off the win with six unanswered points in the team routine fourth quarter.
Violet Gillilan and Emily Hartley led the way for the Skyhawks with 13 points apiece against Southern Arkansas. Kaity Mistretta additionally tacked on 12 points for UT Martin in the first game of the day.
This afternoon against Kentucky, the Skyhawks trailed 4-1 following the partner stunts first quarter. UT Martin nabbed two points in the pyramids and tosses second quarter, trailing by an 8-3 margin at the halftime intermission. The visiting Wildcats claimed four points in the jumps and tumbling third quarter but the Skyhawks bounced back to collect four points of their own in the fourth quarter team routine. However, it wasn’t enough as Kentucky won by a 23-7 margin.
Emily Wood racked up a team-high seven points against the Wildcats while Lexi Felty, Gillilan, Emmy Melton and Emily Wilcher each recorded six points apiece.
UT Martin completes its home schedule tomorrow when it takes on Southern Arkansas (10:30 a.m.) and Missouri Baptist (4 p.m.). The Missouri Baptist game will serve as a “Code Orange” matchup.
