JACKSON, Tenn. – The Union University women’s basketball team will play in the NCAA D2 Women’s Basketball National Tournament for the seventh straight season and ninth time in the 10 years of NCAA membership. Union has earned the No. 2 seed in the south region and will open with 7-seed Eckerd (Florida) College.
Union and Eckerd will play Friday, March 15 at 1:30 p.m. in Valdosta, Georgia. Valdosta State will host this year’s regional as the No. 1.
Eckerd ended Union’s season last year in the region semifinals played in Tampa, Fla. in 2023 when Eckerd was the 2-seed and Union the 3-seed.
In the previous nine appearances in the nationals, Union has been the region’s 1-seed four times, the 2-seed three times, and the 3-seed and 4-seed once each. Union won the regional tournament in 2018, finished runner-up in 2015 and 2022, advanced to the semifinals in 2021 and 2023, and lost in the first round in 2016 and 2019. The 2020 regional in which Union was a 2-seed was not played due to COVID. Union is 9-6 in region tournament play.
Union has a 29-3 overall record, finishing runner-up in the Gulf South Conference regular season before losing in the GSC Tournament semifinals.
