Union Baseball Falls In Series Finale With CBU

JACKSON, Tenn. – The Union University baseball team finished up their series with Christian Brothers University on Sunday evening. The Bulldogs fell to CBU by a final score of 8-7. Union is now 9-13 overall (4-8 GSC) following Sunday’s loss.

Noah Toney started for the Bulldogs on the bump, giving up six runs on nine hits and three walks for the Bulldogs. Toney received a no-decision in the loss.

Union got off to a hot start on Sunday, scoring a run in the first three innings of the game. In the first inning, Mitch Sisk delivered an rbi single to score Carson Chavies for the game’s first run. Carson Chavies then singled to left in the second inning to bring home Canyon PaceAlec Hardy brought in the Bulldog’s third run in the third inning off a wild pitch to give Union an early 3-0 lead over CBU.

Christian Brothers roared back in the fourth inning, scoring three runs off a pair of singles to even the score at 3-3. Ryan Aljancic singled in the fifth inning to retake the lead for the Bulldogs, later answered by a CBU homer in the bottom half of the fifth to even things back up at 4-4.

Down the stretch, Union tacked on three more runs courtesy of a Carson Chavies sacrifice fly and Grant Ross hit by pitch. Christian Brothers answered back once again in the bottom half of the seventh inning, cutting the Union lead to 7-6. In the Bucs final opportunity at the plate, Gabe Walker hit a walk-off two-run homer to defeat the Bulldogs and take the series in Memphis.

Union will begin their home series with Shorter University on Mar. 15th, 2024 at 6:00 p.m. General admission is free courtesy of FirstBank.
