
BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – A pair of University of Tennessee at Martin softball seniors were rewarded for impressive performances as the tandem of Katie Dreiling (Pitcher) and Anna Hazlewood (Player) garnered Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week honors.
The Skyhawks posted a 2-1 record in last week’s action prior to the voting deadline – knocking off Murray State on Wednesday afternoon while splitting Sunday’s doubleheader against Western Illinois.
Hailing from Martin, Tenn., Hazlewood had a big week for her hometown team by hitting .500 while tallying three extra base hits and driving in seven runs. On top of her 1.375 slugging percentage, her OPS is hovering at 1.975 for the week. Against Murray State she went 2-for-3 at the plate with a two-run home run. The senior smashed a three-run home run and drove in a fourth run with a bases loaded walk in the opener against Western Illinois. In Game two versus WIU, she tallied an RBI double. On the pitching side, Hazlewood also posted a 1.05 ERA in 6.2 innings of work while striking out four.
A native of Cape Girardeau, Mo., Dreiling was nearly unhittable in a pair of appearances during the week. She allowed three hits in two games while tossing a six-inning shutout against Western Illinois. The senior worked two innings in relief against Murray State, earning the win after allowing one run. Against WIU, she went the distance, striking out five and allowing just one hit in six innings of work to secure the victory. Dreiling finished the week with a 0.88 ERA.
