MILAN, Tenn. — It doesn’t feel natural to picture the McKenzie football team taking the field on Friday night’s without Wade Comer on the sidelines. As of Tuesday afternoon, Rebel fans will have to get used to that feeling moving forward.

In less than two weeks of the position coming available, Comer has been officially hired as the next head coach of the Milan Bulldogs. This decision follows the recent news of Derek Carr’s departure from Milan to take the job as the head coach at Lexington.

Comer steps away from the McKenzie program after a 23 year head coaching stint. A veteran coach in the West Tennessee area, Comer led the Rebels to a total of 20 playoff appearances, four state championship appearances, and one state championship victory in 2022. Comer recently turned McKenzie into a Class 1A powerhouse, advancing to the state title game the last three seasons.

“We are extremely excited to add Coach Wade Comer to the staff as the new head football coach of the Milan Bulldogs,” said Milan athletic director Shane DePriest. “Not only does Coach Comer have a reputation for championing young men, but he also has a resume that speaks for itself, as well as being proven to be able to bring the gold ball home. We are excited to welcome him with open arms and look forward to seeing the success that he’s going to bring to uphold the traditions and standards of Milan High School.”

Comer now takes over a Milan program that finished the 2023 season with a 9-3 record and an appearance in the second round of the Class 2A playoffs.
