UT Martin Track Team Enjoys Big Performance At Rhodes College Invitational

MEMPHIS, Tenn.– The podium at the Rhodes College Invitational was full of orange and blue as the University of Tennessee at Martin track and field team produced an exceptional outing in the event.

 

The Skyhawks landed seven podium finishes with a handful of personal records and top 10 placings in their outdoor season opener.

 

Meet Highlights

  • Samir Smith had a great day with a sixth place finish in the 100 meter (10.97, PR) and a second place finish in the 200 meter where he set the school record with a time of 21.61 seconds.
  • Victoria Holiday set a new PR (5:17.92) in the one mile which was good enough for fifth place.
  • Chadwick Stewart took home the gold in the 100 meter, garnering a time of 10.66 seconds.
  • The women’s 4×100 squad snagged the gold with a time of 47.97 thanks to the performances of Kayla Jackson, Alaina Gordon, JayleAna Wyatt and Janay Chapman.
  • The men’s 4×100 team also acquired first place with a school record time of 41.52 from Ja’Kobe Ward, Khalid White, John Collin Askew and Chadwick Stewart.
  • White also competed in the 100 meter (fifth, 10.95) and 200 meter (fifth, 21,86) with a PR in the latter event.
  • Chapman would land on the podium in both the 100 meter (third, 12.09) and 200 meter (first, 24.74, PR) for one of her best performances of the season.
  • Ben Ruscoe finished in the top 10 for the one mile race earning a PR with an eighth place finish and a time of 4:27.78.

 

UT Martin will be back in action next week at the Margaret Simmons Invite (March 22-23).
