Lane Baseball Sweeps Miles College

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Lane College baseball team swept a three game road series over Miles College this weekend, led by a dominate performance from the Dragons pitching staff.

All three of Lane’s starters picked up complete game wins, with Austin Lee delivering a shutout in game two of the series.

Thomas Touchette (2-1) went the distance in game one, surrendering just one earned run on seven hits while striking out four batters.

Lee (1-1) silenced the Golden Bears’ bats in game two, allowing no runs on two hits and striking out eight.

Nate McKenna (3-2) secured the sweep for the Dragons, throwing 9.0 innings and allowing one earned run on three hits with seven strikeouts.

Ty Benniefield and Dakotah Danner led the way at the plate for Lane in game one. Trailing 3-0 entering the 8th inning, Danner and Benniefield recorded RBI singles to pull the Dragons to within one run. In the 9th inning, the duo did it again to push the visitors ahead and secure a 4-3 win.

There was less drama in game two as the Lane offense exploded for 12 runs on 15 hits. Six players recorded multiple hits while another four had multiple RBI.

Benniefield ended the series with a .667 batting average (8-for-12), three runs, and four RBI. He also carried a 1.000% fielding percentage on 10 chances.

Danner was 5-for-13 with four runs and four RBI while Pollito Perez also had a team-high four runs.

Lane is back in action on Tuesday, March 19th, when they travel to Memphis to take on Christian Brothers. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
