JACKSON, Tenn. – Noah Toney earned TSWA (Tennessee Sports Writers Association) Pitcher of the Week for his complete game, 3 hit performance on Sunday versus Shorter University.
Toney, a sophomore righty from Florence, Ala., threw a complete game shutout against Shorter University as he went all nine frames, scattering three hits and striking out three. He threw 102 pitches in the 1-0 victory to take the series two games to one over Shorter.
Toney on winning the award:
“I believe you are only entitled to the opportunity to receive an outcome rather than being entitled to the outcome itself. Winning the award is a testament of the hard work we have put in as a team. This team fights and competes at a high level every day. I love my brothers and could not have performed at that level without them.”
Toney and the Bulldogs are traveling to Montgomery, Ala. for a weekend series versus Auburn University at Montgomery. Union will play a single game on Friday at 5:00 p.m. and a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 12:00 p.m.
