BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – For the second straight Tuesday, the University of Tennessee at Martin’s No. 2 beach volleyball duo of Sydney Eckhardt and Dylan Mott have claimed Ohio Valley Conference Pair of the Week honors.
A redshirt junior out of Hendersonville, Tenn., Mott has now won six career OVC Pair of the Week accolades while Eckhardt – a junior from Readington, NJ – has now won two OVC weekly awards during her debut season as a Skyhawk.
The tandem of Eckhardt/Mott helped UT Martin go a perfect 4-0 at the OVC Weekend at Chattanooga, defeating Eastern Illinois (5-0), Tennessee Tech (5-0), Lindenwood (4-1) and Morehead State (5-0). They were an integral part of a Skyhawk squad that won 19 out of 20 individual pairings over the weekend.
Eckhardt/Mott teamed up for the first three matches of the event, winning all three matches in straight sets and allowing only 13.7 points per set. They defeated their Eastern Illinois counterpart (21-18, 21-10) for the match clincher on Friday morning before earning a 21-12, 21-8 victory later that afternoon against Tennessee Tech. On the following day, they added a 21-17, 21-17 triumph over their opponent from Lindenwood.
The pair of Eckhardt/Mott now sports a team-best 10-3 mark (all at No. 2) this spring, accounting for an active five-match winning streak in the process.
UT Martin visits the 2024 Islander Classic this weekend, taking on Texas, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, UTEP and Stephen F. Austin on March 29-30.
