Asmar Hasan and Jersey Cabana Named Lane College Athletes of the Year

JACKSON, Tenn. – The Jackson-Madison County Hall of Fame held its annual induction ceremony on Thursday night at the Carl Perkins Civic Center where Asmar Hasan and Jersey Cabana were recognized as the Lane College Athletes of the Year.

The two student-athletes were recognized for their outstanding accomplishments during the 2023 calendar year.

Hasan, a linebacker from Atlanta, Ga., was the top defender in the SIAC with 118 total tackles (11.8 per game). The junior accumulated 67 solo tackles and had 14 tackles for loss. His 11.8 tackles per game and 67 solo tackles each ranked number two in the nation in all of NCAA Division II.

In addition to being a standout on the football field, Hasan also competes for the Lane College Track & Field team. The rising senior is majoring in Physical Education while also pursuing a minor in Biology.

Cabana was named 2023 SIAC Pitcher of the Year in addition to being selected First Team All-SIAC at both starting pitcher and relief pitcher. The San Dimas, Calif. native re-wrote the record books in her freshman campaign, setting new school records in wins (18), saves (6), ERA (2.08), strikeouts (195), and innings pitched (168.1). She threw a perfect game in her collegiate debut and registered six shutouts, two no-hitters, and four complete game one hitters.

In addition to her success on the field, Cabana was named to the President’s List as well as the SIAC All-Academic Team. She was also inducted into to the Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority in the Fall of 2023. She is majoring in Criminal Justice with a minor in Sociology.
