JACKSON, Tenn. – On April 12, the Union University softball team dropped game one to Lee University. The game went eight innings with the final score being 4-3. The Lady Bulldogs are now 22-18 overall (11-11 GSC), and the Lady Flames are 16-21 overall (10-12 GSC).

Union jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead courtesy of back-to-back hits by Morgan Jennings and Macey Neal in the bottom of the first. Several batters later, Brooke Puckett added to the lead when she drove in Neal with a two-out single. The score remained 2-0 until the top of the sixth when the Lee offense was able to get their first hits of the game and take the lead 3-2. Puckett tied the game up in the bottom of the inning when she hit a no-doubter over the right center fence. However, the Lady Flames pushed a run across in the top of the eighth and held on to secure their comeback win.

Lainey Baker threw all eight innings for the Lady Bulldogs, flirting with a no-hitter until the sixth inning. She struck out 11 batters and walked only one, while giving up four runs on five hits. With the loss, Baker is now 8-8 this season.

Up next for Union is a doubleheader with Lee on April 13. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. with festivities for Alumni Day taking place between games. General admission for all Union regular season home games is free courtesy of FirstBank.
