
ALTON, Ill. – The Union University women’s golf team posted a first-place finish at the Missouri Baptist University Invitational. The two-round event took place at the Spencer T Olin Community Golf and Country Club and featured eight teams with 43 golfers.
Union added this tournament to the schedule just the past week as a previously scheduled event was canceled.
Union also boasted the top three golfers. Brooklyn Verdugo defeated teammate Aubrie Cagle in a playoff to take medalist honors. Both shot 6-over 150 for the event. Verdugo’s first round 73 was the best round of the tournament. Cagle fired a final round 74 to tie Verdugo, forcing a playoff.
Camille Burnette finished third with two rounds of 76 (152). Cecily Berry finished 10th (87, 74-161) and Olivia Carroll finished 12th (78, 84-162).
Up next for the women’s golf team is the Gulf South Conference Championships in Valdosta, Ga. at the Kinderlou Forrest Golf Club, April 22-24.
