
MARTIN, Tenn. – New University of Tennessee at Martin head coach Jeremy Shulman unveiled another addition on National Signing Day as Afan Trnka will suit up for the Skyhawks in 2024-25.
“I’m so pumped to welcome Afan to the Skyhawk family,” Shulman said. “He is a true point guard with elite vision who has won at all levels and will continue to do the same here at UT Martin.”
A 6-2, 170-pound sophomore guard, Trnka played his freshman campaign for Shulman at Eastern Florida State College in Melbourne, Fla. Trnka was part of a Titans squad that won the Citrus Conference championship with a 14-2 league record (27-5 overall) in 2023-24. He saw playing time in 31 games (10 starts), averaging 5.7 points, 2.9 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.5 steals per contest. He scored in double figures four times during his collegiate rookie campaign, setting a career-high with 14 points (on 5-of-9 shooting, including 3-for-5 from three-point range) at Palm Beach State College on Nov. 29. He also tied a career-high with three treys against Central Georgia Technical College on Nov. 17 and swished a career-best six free throws against Tallahassee Community College on Dec. 8. He dished out at least five assists in eight of his first 14 games of the season, including a career-high 10 dimes against North Florida Prep on Dec. 5. He hauled in at least five rebounds in eight separate outings, grabbing a career-best nine boards against Atlantic Cape Community College on Nov. 10. Defensively, he swiped at least three steals in nine different games, highlighted by a career-high six steals against Central Georgia Technical College on Nov. 17.
Trnka prepped under head coach Jack Mai at Bishop Mora Salesian High School in Los Angeles, Calif., where he earned All-Camino Real League second team honors as a senior. He posted a near triple-double against Chadwick in his senior season, tallying 20 points, nine rebounds, nine assists, six steals and three blocks.
Trnka also boasts extensive international experience, as the Sarajevo, Bosnia native was a standout performer for the Bosnia and Herzegovina National Team at the FIBA U18 Division B event in the summer of 2022. He averaged 13.0 points, a team-best 5.9 assists, 3.6 rebounds and team-high 2.9 steals per outing in eight games, leading his country to a sixth-place finish out of 22 teams in the prestigious event.
