
JACKSON, Tenn. – On April 19, the Union University softball team won game one against the University of Montevallo 9-1 in five innings. With the win, Union improves to 26-18 overall (14-11 GSC), while Montevallo falls to 22-23 overall (13-12 GSC).
The Lady Bulldogs jumped out to an early lead when they batted around in the second inning and scored seven runs. Brooke Puckett led off the inning with a solo shot to center field. Several batters later, Macey Neal added a grand slam to break the game open. Courtney Marler followed with a solo homerun of her own. The Falcons scored a run in the top of the third. Then Bryleigh Carneal singled in the home half of the inning to drive in both Mackenzi David and Mallory Hildebrand. Union was able to hold on to their 9-1 to win in five innings.
The Lady Bulldogs had nine hits in the game. David and Carneal had two hits each, and Macey Neal, Sarah Kate Thompson, Marler, Puckett, and Hildebrand added one hit a piece. Macey Neal led in RBIs with four.
Riley Vaughn dominated in the circle, pitching all five innings and striking out eight Falcons while walking one and allowing only one run, which was unearned, on three hits. With the win, she improves to 9-4 on the season.
