Game two was all Montevallo as the Falcons scored in every inning except the fifth. Union had only two hits in the game, a leadoff single from Morgan Jennings in the first inning and a double from Mallory Hildebrand in the fifth.
Emily Claire Felder got the start for Union, pitching five innings and striking out six while walking two and allowing seven runs (four earned) on 10 hits. Addison Abell threw one inning in relief. She gave up two runs, four hits, and one walk and struck out one batter. Felder took the loss, bringing her overall record to 5-6 on the season.
Game three was a battle for both teams. Montevallo got the scoring started in the first with an RBI double from Lily Stone. Union took the lead in the bottom of the second courtesy of a solo shot from Brooke Puckett and an RBI from Bryleigh Carneal on a fielder’s choice. However, Montevallo’s Bentlee Stiner hit a two-run home run in the top of the third to give the Falcons the lead once again 3-2. Zoey Neal dropped down a beautiful squeeze bunt to bring Macey Neal home and tie the game in the home half of the third. Zoey then hit a solo homer in the fifth, and shortly after, Mackenzi David hit a solo home run of her own that ricocheted off the left field foul pole. Jennings scored on a wild throw in the sixth to bring the score to 6-3. The Lady Bulldogs held on in the seventh for the win and series victory.
Riley Vaughn threw another complete game for Union, striking out eight Falcons and walking only two while giving up three runs on six hits. With the win, Vaughn’s record improves to 9-4 on the season.
Up next, the Lady Bulldogs travel to Huntsville, Ala., to face the University of Alabama in Huntsville in their final regular season GSC series of the season. Game one is scheduled for Apr. 26 at 5:00 p.m.
