MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala. – The 2023-24 Ohio Valley Conference postseason golf awards were unveiled this evening as University of Tennessee at Martin sophomore Dax Isbell was named as one of 10 players on the All-OVC team.
Tonight’s announcement marks the second OVC postseason accolade in the budding career of Isbell, who also earned OVC All-Newcomer status last season as a freshman. He was one of just two sophomores on this year’s All-OVC squad as he becomes just the 13th different Skyhawk to ever receive this recognition.
Isbell wrapped up the regular season ranking seventh in the OVC in scoring average (72.2) and was tied with two others for the best round of any player in the league in 2023-24 – a 64 in the third round of the SIUE Dolenc Invitational on Sept. 26. Isbell etched his name in that tournament’s 12-year record book, topping the previous best cumulative score in the event by two strokes as well as setting a new benchmark for single-round scoring. His 197 (-16) in the tournament was UT Martin’s first 54-hole score under 200 since 2019 and led to the first of his three OVC Golfer of the Week nods this season (also winning on Oct. 5 and Feb. 22).
A Cumming, Ga. native, Isbell placed in the top-10 in five of the Skyhawks’ 10 stroke-play tournaments this season – including his first career medalist win at the aforementioned SIUE Dolenc Invitational. He produced par or below par tallies in almost half (14 of 29) of his regular season rounds – including nine scores in the 60’s.
Isbell produced the best UT Martin overall score in six of its 10 completed stroke-play events this season. He was a true model of consistency, delivering a countable score in all 30 opportunities as a member of the Skyhawk lineup (including today’s first round of the 2024 OVC Championships) during his impressive 2023-24 campaign.
