
JACKSON, Tenn. – Led by sophomore Brooklyn Verdugo’s 14th-place finish, Union women’s golf claimed seventh after the final day of the 72-hole GSC Championship on Wednesday in Valdosta, Georgia, with a team score of 970.
Verdugo’s position is the fourth-best individual finish by a Lady Bulldog in Union’s history at the annual event. After shooting 84 (+14) on Monday, she turned in rounds of 74 and 75 and climbed the leaderboard dramatically. Verdugo tied for fifth in the event in Par 5 scoring (5.17) and finished with seven birdies and 26 pars. She rose six spots on Wednesday to finish with a +19 score of 235.
On Verdugo’s heels was freshman Camille Burnette, who finished in 21st place with a score of 241 (+25). Burnette improved on her Monday 83 with latter rounds of 77 and 81 to end the event sixth among GSC freshmen.
Aubrie Cagle (79-83-85–247), Cecily Berry (87-86-79–252), and Olivia Carroll (84-89-83–256) completed Union’s delegation, finishing in T29, T33, and T37 positions. Berry rose seven spots on the leaderboard on day three to help Union fend off eighth-place Christian Brothers.
West Florida won the event with a team score of 891 (+27), 14 strokes clear of Lee in the nine-school field. The Lady Flames’ Supuschaya Srichantamit won the individual title at one-under.
