MOREHEAD, Ky. – For the second straight day, the result of the University of Tennessee at Martin beach volleyball’s match depended on the third set on the final court but the Skyhawks came up just short, falling in the Ohio Valley Conference Championship semifinals by a 3-2 margin to Lindenwood. UT Martin wraps up the 2024 season with a 16-17 overall record.

The Skyhawks received wins out of their No. 5 and No. 2 pairings this morning. UT Martin’s All-OVC second team No. 5 tandem of Kayla Carrell/Reagan McGee emerged victorious with a 21-15, 21-10 victory to give the Skyhawks a 1-0 lead in the match and increase that tandem’s win total to 19 on the season.

After the Lions (16-9) evened the score with a win at No. 4, All-OVC first teamers Eckhardt/Mott claimed their team-best 20th victory together with a dominant 21-8, 21-9 victory.

However, Lindenwood was able to win at No. 1 and No. 3 – denying UT Martin’s bid for a third straight OVC Championship tournament title.

Following the conclusion of the match, Eckhardt/Mott earned a spot on the OVC Championship All-Tournament Team. That pair went 2-1 while allowing their opponents to just 12.8 points per set in the process.

Today’s result marks the end of the 2024 season for the Skyhawks, who won their third consecutive OVC regular season championship while boasting four All-OVC duos and an OVC All-Freshman.
