Union Softball Season Ends At GSC Championships

JACKSON, Tenn. – On May 2, the six-seed Union University softball team’s season ended with an 8-1 loss to seven-seed University of West Alabama in day two of the GSC Championships. Union finishes with a 28-23 record overall, while West Alabama improves to 34-17 overall and will advance to day three of the tournament.

The Lady Bulldogs went behind early with the Tigers scoring two runs in the first inning, three in the second, and two in the third to take a 7-0 lead. Mackenzi David doubled to left field in the sixth inning to drive in Brooke Puckett, giving Union their first and only run of the game. West Alabama scored another run in their half of the sixth, making the game 8-1 with that being the final score.

The Lady Bulldogs had seven hits in the game. Sarah Kate ThompsonMorgan Jennings, and David led the offense each going 2-3. David and Thompson also had a double apiece. Puckett had the only other hit for Union.

Emily Claire Felder started in the circle and went 1.2 innings, giving up five runs (four earned) on five hits and one walk while striking out three Tigers. Riley Vaughn came in for 2.2 innings of relief and struck out three batters of her own but also allowed two runs, two hits, and four walks. Kira Finkley pitched the final 1.2 innings for Union and gave up only one run on three hits and one walk while striking out one.

With the 2024 season at an end, the Lady Bulldogs will set their sights on another GSC Championships run in 2025.
